Nancy Clayton Lefter has been the Director of Choral Activities at the Citadel since 1993. She is a native of Charleston and was raised on James Island. She received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Furman University, and a Masters in Musicology from the University of North Texas. Nancy also has performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the Charleston Community Band as a guest vocalist, and has sung in several restaurants in the Charleston area, most recently "High Cotton". Her swing bands have also performed at wedding receptions and private parties, including the Lowcountry Senior Sports Classic Opening and Closing ceremonies. Nancy is married to Phillip Lefter, a systems manager with AT&T.
Dr. Mark Bebensee
Dr. Mark Bebensee is Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and an Economics professor at The Citadel. He earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Economics from Millsaps College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University. In his 29-year career at The Citadel, Dr. Bebensee has also served as Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Head of the Department of Business Administration. He has received the Palmetto Medal, the Grimsley Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching, and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. In addition to his duties in the School of Business, Dr. Bebensee also served as The Citadel's Chapel Organist for many years, and has accompanied the Cadet Chorale for the past 17 years. He is currently Organist/Choirmaster at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant.
